Job Description

Principal Duties

1. Seeks out appropriate projects to fulfill GP’s market objectives and goals: Reviews various sources of information for upcoming projects to bid. Reviews contract documents of prospective projects. Conducts pre-bid site investigation/inspection to verify pertinent existing conditions. Performs quantitative takeoffs for project estimates. Recognizes time frame of work and accounts for future escalations. Defines project scope of work with management and field operations group. Prepares rough work schedule for prime projects and analyzes for any issues such as resource constraints, liquidated damages, schedule impact, etc. Using historical productivity/cost data as guidelines prepares estimates including pricing out activity processes and keeps aware of active project issues for future reference. Reviews market trends on recent, similar projects to aid in determining optimum bidding strategy. Solicits subcontractors and material supplier quotes and reviews for selection process. Provides good faith effort as required for minority participation goals. Submits bid/estimate proposal in a timely manner. Follows up on bid result status and obtains pricing information. Completes post-bid review of project, with pricing comparisons on GP / subcontractor work for review and future reference. Provides market status and other reports as requested.
2. Provides contract administration support for prime & subcontracted projects: Reviews subcontract agreements for alignment with quoted proposal (scope of work, quantities, and pricing). Provides operations group with pertinent information (plans, specs, submittal file, etc.) to perform work. Assists operations with large-scale change order requests.
3. Adds value to the Company by portraying a competent and professional image to customers while providing appropriate recommendations for each customer’s specific needs.
4. Performs other duties as assigned.
5. Promotes awareness of and follows Company, site, public safety and welfare, public roads and other safety policies.
6. Exhibits a core understanding of mutual respect and good customer service orientation in interactions with all people in the work place.

Principal Requirements

1. BS Degree in Civil Engineering preferred.
2. 2 years in construction, preferably asphalt paving or 5 years other relevant experience.
3. Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Email; aptitude to learn in-house systems; keyboarding skills sufficient to complete daily tasks in a timely manner.
4. 10 key by touch.
5. Excellent math skills to review and analyze financial data and perform calculations related to daily tasks.
6. Able to read and understand financial forms and technical documents.
7. Ability to read blueprints.
8. Valid driver’s license and favorable traffic abstract.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills for effective internal and external communications.
10. Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate or PE preferred.
11. Must be at least 21 years of age.
