Part-Time Surf Lesson Videographer

• You’ll be working with 83 East, a video production company that works directly with Ty Gurney Surf School in Waikiki, shooting video of surf lessons, from the water, in up to head high surf.

• This is a great part-time job for someone looking to make extra money, while getting in some serious ocean time. . . ideal for college students. Please read the ENTIRE ad before replying.

Job Description:

• Arrive at surf shop at least a half hour before day’s first lesson; prepare equipment for the day

• Lessons are 1 or 2 hours long, usually starting at 8AM or 9AM; may have multiple lessons at the same time

• Introduce yourself to the student(s) as the camera person for Ty Gurney Surf School

• Shoot video of student’s 5 minute land lesson

• Paddle out on 10′ to 11′ surfboard (for stability) with lesson

• Shoot students paddling out, waiting for waves, taking off on waves, riding waves past you, and riding along side of you on the same wave

• Shoot students paddling back to beach and getting out of the water

• Inform student of video package options and pricing; If sold, take order and payment at shop

• Keep an accurate log of everything shot that day

• Clean and put away all equipment and make sure it is ready for use the following day

• Surfboards, cameras, and housings will be supplied by 83 East

Hours:

• Part-time

• 2 to 5 days per week

• 8:00AM to 4:00PM

• Must work at least one weekend day

Requirements:

• Must be able to surf with complete control of 11′ surfboards in up to head high surf. Please don’t assume that because you are an avid short boarder, maneuvering an 11′ board will be easy. Your ability to control an 11′ board will be assessed during the interview.

• We will train you to use camera and water housing equipment

• Must be punctual!!!

• Must have good communication skills

Compensation:

• Commission (based on sold videos) – You will make $20 to $75 per lesson video/photo package sold (depending on the type of package). Weekly income ebbs and flows with the peak tourism seasons
