JOB DESCRIPTION

In response to the demand for repatriation of our citizens, American Samoa Government is initiating a repatriation program to bring residents stranded in the U.S. mainland back home. The goals of the program are to ensure safe travel of the stranded residents from US to American Samoa and to reduce the risk of SARS CoV-2 entry and transmission within the territory. Due to limitations in quarantine and testing capacity in American Samoa, residents will be subject to quarantine and testing procedures and processes prior to departing Honolulu.

 

Many residents who are stranded in Hawaii and the U.S. mainland departed American Samoa primarily for scheduled medical specialty care. Because residents in quarantine will most likely have a previous medical history, this position is key in ensuring the health, comfort, and safety of the quarantine population. This individual will work with the Quarantine Facility Nurse Manager to coordinate with the contracted health providers- contracted services include daily health monitoring, and nasopharyngeal swabbing of the quarantine population. This individual will work with a team to ensure that the American Samoa residents remain in quarantine as comfortable as possible.

 

The Nurse’s Assistant is also assigned to work with the Logistics Technician under the Quarantine Facility Nurse Manager. The Medical Assistant must be able to endure long hours in full personal protective equipment (PPE).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist quarantine site management

•            Assist in the oversight of intake and registration process and procedures for ASDOH SARS CoV-2 quarantine site

•            Assist the Quarantine Nurse Facility Manager in and communicating coordinating with external contractors

•            Assist in providing oversight of work done by contractors providing medical services by

o            Ensuring the delivery of required medical services provided by contracted health care providers

o            Ensuring that testing for all individuals in quarantine are completed

o            Observing behavior of quarantine population

•            Assist in ensuring that the quarantine site remains HIPAA compliant

•            Assist in the managing of flow of quarantine travelers from site to airport

Administrative Work

•            Discover, and analyze medical logistical problems and devise plans for improvements

•            Preparing reports to be passed from the Quarantine Nurse Facility Manager to the ASDOH Clinical Director- to include ASDOH Clinical team.

•            Ensure health and safety standards are met

•            Assist Quarantine Facility Nurse Manager in other responsibilities assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum required 

o            Associate’s Degree required.

o            Certified Nurses Assistant

o            Administrative skills

o            Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy and compassion

o            Effective communication skills

o            Good collaboration and teamwork skills

o            Monitoring of vitals and patient behavior

o            Understanding of medication dosages

o            In-depth understanding of patient care policies and regulations

Desired 

o            Understanding of medical equipment

o            Familiarity with symptoms and signs of improved for a number of medical conditions

o            Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office Software

o            Basic knowledge of Google Suites

o            Proficient in Samoan and English languages (writing, speaking)
