Job Description

The Girl Scouts of Hawai`i is looking for part-time advisors for its After School Leadership Program for girls at various sites on Kauai.

This is a 7-15 hours/week position (depending on number of sites/levels delivered) that is responsible for leading and facilitating the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in an after-school setting, with meetings scheduled from 1 to 2 times per week (depending on grade level).

Advisors are employed by Girl Scouts of Hawai`i and are compensated for preparing, leading, and concluding program activities. Advisors are expected to be available at the site at least 15 minutes prior to the conclusion of the regular school day, as the program begins immediately thereafter.

Job Requirements
A successful candidate must:
1. Be energetic, trustworthy, and committed to the values of Girl Scouting;
2. Enjoy working with school-aged children;
3. Be an independent and innovative thinker and problem solver, willing to tackle new challenges and able to manage multiple assignments while meeting specific deadlines with minimal supervision;
4. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate with parents, school staff, community members, and Girl Scout staff;
5. Have a basic understanding of age-appropriate behaviors and skills;
6. Be available to work some weekends and evenings;
7. Undergo a comprehensive background check;
8. Have a Bachelor’s degree, be working toward a degree in a related field, or have two years’ work experience in youth programs;
9. The successful candidate will be required to become an adult member of Girl Scouts USA ($15 membership fee).

Major Responsibilities involve program delivery, communication (with parents, school administration and Girl Scouts staff), recruitment of members, adherence to safety standards and policies, collecting and submitting program-related paperwork, participating in cookie sales, resolving conflicts, attending occasional (paid) trainings, meetings and day or overnight camps, and, of course, working with girls directly to help them explore their leadership potential.

Salary: $15/hour, or higher, depending on qualifications.
